All things must end . . .

Inside a colony of honey bees there is a work order. Honey bees have different assignments, if you will, as they live out their life. If you are a forager honey bee, then you will make daily foraging trips, and put on about 500 flight miles before your delicate wings wear out and you die.  

This is a short life—six weeks in the peak of honey flow. 

Usually this death occurs when they are out on a flight to bring back nectar or pollen to the colony. 

Today, after six years of beekeeping we discovered one little forger at the end of her days. 

She was on Goldenrod, having made her last attempt to service her hive, but the wings were tattered and she could fly no more. . .
