Knee Surgery and Honey Bees

Today I took a vacation day, spending 5 ½ hours with my honey. No not the sweet sticky stuff that my tongue savors, but my honey that I love, my hubby. This is our long awaited for day—his fourth knee surgery. Technology has changed a lot since his last arthroscopic. He decided to have a spinal tap for anesthesia instead of a general. This made his post-op recovery smooth sailing.

To add to our excitement, while in the recovery room, we decided that we would add a third colony to our backyard apiary. This means we will now have three hives. A fellow beekeeper has two nucs up for grabs, and we will take one of them. The nuc and queen are locally grown, so hopefully they will be able to endure winters in Northern New England. Because of this quick decision to expand, we promptly placed an order for a third hive. By the end of May our backyard should be buzzing like crazy, and instead of our forty thousand little honey’s we’ll probably have around one hundred and twenty thousand honey bees.
